Best Non-Touristic Restaurants and Fresh Food Markets in Rome, Florence and Venice

After visiting these cities multiple times, I’ve tried many different restaurants, but there are only a few places I make sure to eat at every time I’m in Rome, Florence, or Venice.

Rome

Necci, a restaurant Aghate and her husband have run for 20 years, my favorite restaurant in Rome offering a genuine Italian culinary experience at local prices. It’s located outside the touristic area of Rome in a wonderful and historic neighborhood a few miles from the main attractions.

Alternatively, after eating at many local taverns in Rome, I believe Osteria da Enzo 29 is a good option too. Despite being in a touristy area, locals continue to frequent it for its quality, authenticity, and reasonable prices.

Florence

If you’re looking for an authentic culinary experience, head to Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio. This local market offers a true taste of Tuscany, with fresh ingredients, homemade dishes and Tuscan Wines, all at great prices, far from the tourist crowds.

Another standout is Via de’ Neri, home to the famous Antico Vinaio. Known for its delicious sandwiches stuffed with Tuscan delicacies, it’s a local favorite where you can enjoy genuine Tuscan street food without worrying about the prices.

Venice

Skip the overpriced spots near the canals and head to the quieter areas for a true taste of local cuisine. A hidden gem is the Rialto Market, where you can experience the freshest seafood and products, often used in traditional Venetian dishes.

In addition, for a casual yet authentic meal, try Osteria Al Squero, a popular spot among locals for its cicchetti (Venetian tapas) and refreshing Aperol Spritz, offering great food at reasonable prices away from the main tourist areas.
